Highlight Of Morocco Itinerary In 14 Days

Highlight Of Morocco Itinerary In 14 Days

Day1 – CASABLANCA

Arrive in Casablanca in the morning and meet your driver outside the airport.

○ Begin with a visit to the stunning Hassan II Mosque, the largest in Morocco and the third largest mosque in the world that non-muslims are allowed to enter. Able to accommodate up to 105,000 in prayer, this marvel of modern Moroccan architecture is the work of hundreds of expert craftsmen from around the country, many of them donating their work.

○ Explore Casablanca with a private guide.

○ Visit Casablanca’s Jewish quarter, or Mellah (meaning “salt”, as the Jews were given control over the valuable salt trade by the king), which is still home to temples and synagogues, though it is no longer predominantly inhabited by Jews.

○ Tour the Museum of Moroccan Judaism. The only Jewish museum in the Arab world, the Museum of Moroccan Judaism displays an amazing collection of religious books, costumes, and artifacts reflecting the rich history of the Jewish civilization in Morocco, which dates back over 2,500 years and predates the arrival of the Arabs in the territory.

○ Visit the Habous District. This new medina was built according to the traditional model and is in the south of the city in the Habous neighborhood. You will have a pleasant time admiring its little squares, arcades and numerous craft shops. The mahkama (courthouse) of the Pasha is to be seen here too. This Hispano-Moorish style building, built entirely of marble and wood, has 60 rooms and was used as a courtroom and as a reception room by the ancient Pasha of Casablanca.

○ Overnight in Casablanca.

Day2 – Head to Chefchaouen, Morocco’s blue city where you will check into your Riad on the edge of the Medina.

○ Spend the afternoon with a private guide exploring the Medina in Chefchaouen, one of the prettiest towns in Morocco. Chefchaouen is an artsy, blue-washed mountain village that feels like its own world. The old medina is a delight of Moroccan and Andalusian influence with red-tiled roofs, bright-blue buildings and narrow lanes converging on busy Plaza Uta El Hammam and its restored Kasbah.
Overnight in Chefchaouen at Riad Chez Hicham (or similar)

Day 3- Hiking in Akchour with a local guide.

○ Well-ensconced in the nearby wooded hillsides is Akchour’s crown jewel, the aptly named God’s Bridge, a natural arch that straddles a valley by creating a crossable passage between two mountains.
Akchour waterfall is definitely one of Morocco’s truly hidden gems. Surrounded by the majestic Rif Mountains, the trek goes along the river with numerous small cascades through the vigorous green fairytale forest.
Overnight in Chefchaouen at Riad Chez Hicham (or similar)

Day4 – Head to Fez visiting Volubilis and Meknes.

○ Volubilis is one of Morocco’s best-preserved Roman ruins located between the Imperial Cities of Fez and Meknes on a fertile plain surrounded by wheat fields.
Meknes is made up of the old (medina) and the new (ville nouvelle); two distinct centres less than three miles apart but harnessing quite different vibes. The medina holds the city’s historic sights and sought-after romantic flavour, while in the ville nouvelle you’ll find big houses, modern cars and branded takeaways.
Overnight in Fez at Riad Al Makan (or similar)

DAY 5 : Tour Fes with a private guide.

○ Begin at the Royal Palace, with its seven golden doors, and learn about the significance of the intricate decor.
Stroll through the Mellah, or Jewish quarter, which was built next to the palace to offer protection.
Take in the view of the city from Borj Sud, a former fortress and one of the lookouts on a hill where you can see all of Fes laid out, allowing you to spot landmarks otherwise hidden by the skyline-obscuring buildings.
Visit a pottery co-op to see how they make the unique Fes pottery, as well as handcrafting the intricate mosaics adorning half of Morocco.
Head into the ancient medina and step into a sort of living museum. The Fes medina is very much a local community that lives and works and goes about daily life in the medina, so be sure to keep moving and watch out for the donkeys!
Stop by the Al-Quaraouiyine University, the oldest degree-granting university still in operation, having been founded in 859CE by a woman.
Visit handicraft workshops, where you will see why Fes is considered the handicraft capital of Morocco. This can include, among other things, the silk weavers, where beautifully colorful fabrics are woven from silk fibers of the agave plant; and the famous Fes tannery, where they process all manner of animal hides by hand, much as they have for nearly 1,000 years.
During your tour of the medina, you will stop for lunch in a restaurant that would be very easy to walk right past, but is truly a hidden gem. Lunch included.
Overnight in Fez at Riad Al Makan (or similar)

DAY 6 : Continue the beautiful journey south over the Atlas Mountains toward Merzouga.

○Make stops along the way to see the monkeys outside Azrou Cedar Forest and see the green river of palm trees in Errachidia. You’ll drive through Ziz Valley where you can get out and see spectacular cliffs leading down into river valleys that are lush with palm trees. The scenery is spectacular!
You’ll arrive in Merzouga, located on the edge of the starkly beautiful Sahara Desert. From here you will mount your camels and trek out with your camel-guide into the heart of the desert for about one hour in the setting sun – an unforgettable adventure!! This brings you to the beautiful Sahara Sky Luxury Desert Camp, with private tents and ensuite bathrooms where you can relax, have dinner, listen to traditional music around the campfire, wander into the sands and marvel at the stars…
*Transportation available in a 4×4 vehicle to/from the camp if you do not wish to ride a camel.
Overnight in Sahara Desert at Sahara Sky Luxury Desert Camp (or similar).

DAY 7 : Erg Chebbi Dunes

○Wake up early to see the spectacular sunrise over the dunes. Enjoy breakfast at the camp before departing on your adventure filled day.
Spend the day immersed in the Erg Chebbi dunes with activities such as sand boarding and ATV quad bikes. Visit a traditional Berber nomad family and learn about their fascinating lifestyle.
Visit Khamlia, a small village surrounded by the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. You’ll enjoy traditional Berber pizza for lunch and learn about the Gnaoua culture. Listen to Gnaoua style music which is a genre that traces the human history of sub- Saharan ethnic groups.
Overnight at same Luxury Desert Camp OR overnight at hotel with pool and other amenities (Hotel Azawad or similar).

DAY 8 : Enjoy a very scenic journey into the High Atlas Mountains.

○The winding track takes you through traditional Berber villages and the famous Todra Gorge. Small clay villages and ancient kasbahs, gigantic landscapes and dramatic rock faces, form a picturesque canyon. You’ll be enchanted by the breathtaking scenery.
Dades Valley stretches from the High Atlas Mountains in the north to the rugged Jbel Sarho in the south and is scattered with oases, palm groves and elaborate kasbahs.
Although the kasbahs of the Dades Valley are a definite must-see, the area’s natural beauty is the real highlight. Enjoy the kasbahs or wander the many hiking trails through the gorge while you admire the towering pink cliffs tinted with greens and golds that stretch nearly 1,000 feet above you. Amazing vistas and towering cliff faces can be seen at each new curve and bend in the road.
One of the lesser known, yet extremely impressive sights, is a rock formation known as Monkey’s Fingers. The towering cliff face appears pebbled—long vertical sections of rock have “digits” made of a conglomerate of boulders that rest in a unique formation, utterly different from any other section within the gorge. As the name implies, it appears as though a hand is rising up from the river below.
Overnight in Dades Valley at Ksar Sultan Dades (or similar) .

DAY 9:

○After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll descend the lush green Dades Valley and head towards Ouarzazate. This area is often referred to as the Land of a Thousand Kasbahs. You’ll pass through beautiful Rose Valley known for special kind of roses only grown in this region and stop at a cooperative to learn how they process rose water.
Continue to the palm grove of Skoura with countless date palms and lush gardens of olive, almond and pomegranate trees covering the area. It is an impressive abundance of vegetation typical of southern oases. Also visit a famous centuries old kasbah that still retains it’s former beauty.
You’ll spend the night in the spectacular hillside town of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In recent years, this region has become a major player in the film industry. Over 20 major films have been made here including Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, Game of Thrones, Mission Impossible, Alexander, and Prince of Persia.
Overnight in Ait Ben Haddou at Auberge Ayouze (or similar)

DAY 10 : Leave Ouarzazate after breakfast and travel to Marrakesh arriving in the late afternoon.

○Tour the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou where many movies and TV shows including Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones were filmed. Visit the former palace of the Glaoui family, Kasbah Telouet.
There will be plenty of stops for tea and photographs as you take in the breathtaking vistas while traveling over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka path, reaching an altitude of nearly 7500 feet above sea level.
Overnight in Marrakech at Riad Nesma (or similar)

DAY 11 : Meet your guide in the morning for a private tour of Marrakech.

Visit the Koutoubia minaret, the tallest in Marrakech. Within the city walls, no building is allowed to be taller than the Koutoubia’s 253 feet. The minaret is part of the largest mosque in Marrakech, which was completed in 1199.
Stop at a Berber Apothecary shop, learning of the medicinal uses of many of the common spices and herbs that are still used across Morocco to treat common illnesses. While it’s not as picturesque as the heaps of spices you find in the market, it is far more informative!
Stop for coffee at the famed Dar Bacha, offering over 200 varieties of coffee from the world over, housed in a historic palace in Marrakech.
Explore Jemaa el Fna, the primary square in the medina and a UNESCO world heritage site.
Head into the souks surrounding Jemaa el Fna to several workshops, including shoemakers and bakers.
Enjoy the afternoon at your leisure.
Overnight in Marrakech at Riad Nesma (or similar)

DAY 12 :Essaouira

○Your journey continues through the beautiful landscape of the Argan trees forest which exist only in this very specific region. Stop to see the unusual and amusing sight of goats in trees. Visit a women’s cooperative and learn about the process and the products of the argan tree.
Discover the beautiful port city of Essaouira. Archeologists have found remnants that Essaouira has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The fortresses that make up the old medina are perhaps the most noticeable feature. They were built by Portuguese conquerers around 1505 along with five others along the coast. By 1550 they were driven from all but three Moroccan cities. Essaouira was a stronghold for the exporting of sugar, molasses and a mooring point for pirates!
Want to try wind surfing? It’s one of the activities Essaouira is best known for. If you already know how to windsurf you can simply rent equipment or sign up for lessons.
Overnight at Riad Mogodor Khan (or similar)

DAY 13 : Essaouira
